We got presents from Germany!
They are from our friend Dr. Lutz. He is a doctor who lives across the road from CB’s Nan in Cape Breton. I’ve only met him once, but he has been friends with CB and his nan forever. We had long conversations about chocolate over fried mackerel and he cemented himself as one of my favourite people ever very quickly.
He loves chocolate possibly as much as I do. He was so excited we were moving to a tiny island in Newfoundland, and said I would be like Juliet Binoche in Chocolat, shocking the traditions of the townsfolk. And CB is the rascally gypsy pirate, naturally. Inside the package was a copy of Chocolat and a package of lindt chocolates! Im going to wait til CB falls asleep and eat them all.
There was also this indiscernible christmas card with really nice insides.
So sweet. Now I just have to figure out how to play a German dvd. I wonder if they have dubbed Johnny Depp with a German accent.
Last night we were invited to dinner at Rex and Paulines, the owners of the Newfoundland dogs I may or may not be planning on kidnapping forever. There were a few other people there, some rum, and a whole buttload of amazing food. Pauline said it was a potluck, but what she means by potluck apparently means Pauline makes all of the random dishes herself and serves them to you. It was amazing. Pineapple ham, stuffed pork roast, FISH CAKES, pickled pumpkin, and this amazing substance called Hashbrown Casserole. So good. So much fun. I had no idea what anybody was talking about, after a couple of drinks the Newfie accents can get very fast and thick and I am .. very slow and thick.
This morning CB dropped me off at work and Rex sent him back to their house where Pauline unloaded all the leftovers on us. So now we have dinners for days! They are awesome. They know we never say no to free food!
Tomorrow Im having fishcakes with a fried egg for breakfast and I can’t wait to go to sleep so I can get up and EAT IT! GOODNIGHT!
