Zen Toast

In the early hours of the morning, I am mostly baking and making bread. My most favourite time of the day is those 2 quiet hours in my kitchen, kneading and gently shaping big fat bellies of dough into perfect clean loaves. I do most of my best thinking in those two hours. I don’t want to get all misty eyed romantic over some fucking dough, but there is something magic and therapeutic to it. I feel my hands sink into the dough, pressing and pulling it smooth and taught and I feel like I’m having a really good stretch. You know that kinds of electic tingle you get when you have a REALLY good stretch? That’s what I mean. I love my bread time. Sometimes in between batches I run to my notebook to jot down ideas. Ideas for desserts, other breads, the future, things I want to remember to tell my family, dishes my my imaginary future bakery. Yesterdays page says:

Bread meditations
barley & buttermilk Bread
seabuckthorn marshmallows wednesday
Seal hunting
Open the jar !!

Doesn’t make much sense, but it captures my week pretty nicely. The first is to remind me to write a blog about the stuff I think about when playing with bread. Check! The seconds is a new batch of dough I made yesterday. This morning is turned out to be possibly the worlds finest toast. Sweet and crunchy, covered in butter and honey. HOT DAMN.

1,000 likes because I got 1,000 likes on ma blog! Horn tootingly awesome. Thanks for liking me, you know I need your constant validation or my paranoia kicks in and I start to suspect I don’t really exist at all…

Seabuckthorn marshmallows because I think they are kind of mean and sour and be nice made all sweet and soft.. and a really pretty orange colour. The juice looks like flourescent orange tempura paint.

Seal hunting.. because that is what I always do when I am doing my bread. Taking window breaks to see if I can spot any spotty seals. Still nada. But its snowing and the ocean is free of ice this morning.

Open the jar! Because I have been meaning for the jar of seal meat in the fridge to become a stew and also allow me to participate in Our Growing Edge finally!!

Gotta do it! Gotta bite the bullet, and bite the seal meat. I’m sure it will be weird and yum.

Anyway.. I’m uhh.. at work so.. bye!
