Ive spent most of the afternoon writing blogs and eating strange snacks. It feels nice to indulge in 2 of my favourite hobbies. Snacks & blogs. Slaps & bongs. Baps & snogs. In a few minutes Ill get up and feed Sweetpea, who has finished napping and is now staring at me very intensely from the couch across the room. Trying to will me out of this recliner with the pure devastating force of her doggy mind. Then we will go for a walk, and she will get to pee on flowers, which always puts her in a very good mood. Its very grey, foggy and a bit rainy out but its nice and warm. Despite that I have a fire on because its nice. Its probably about 30 degrees in here, but whatever! I love combusting trees!

ANYWAY. Early this afternoon I wandered around the house taking pictures of random things. I havent done that in forever. So I thought Id put the pictures up, even though they are pretty boring, its a nice little time capsule of October 2016.

Nothing feels more like home to me then a pineapple slowly rotting away on a windowsill. Its been a decorative feature of nearly every place we have lived. I like to imagine they are staring wistfully out onto the cold day outside and remembering the tropical island they were plucked from. Thinking about their mom pineapple, and the pina colada they will never become. Sorry pineapples, its your fault for being so delicious.

These are my fancy wines I bought for cooking. And drinking apparently. Mostly drinking *burp*

Just wanted to show them off so you know factually what a fancy bitch I am. I shouldnt drink wine because it gives me The Sads and makes me cry over cereal commercials. But c’est le vie. J’ai soif. Wuh huh huh… (thats French for laughter, like the cook in The Little Mermaid, you know?)

GREEN THUMB ALERT! That plant there is called a goldfish plant or a dolphin plant or something. Whatever, its pretty cool looking and pretty happy on the kitchen windowsill. I shared a bit of wine with it so its drunk now and growing all over the fucking place.

Beside it is my nans old kitchen timer, one of my most precious objects, and a glass full of ivy seedlings. I have 5 ivy plants now. Does anyone want an ivy ??

I dont know why I am so fascinated with documenting the inside of my fridge but I am, so there. Here we have all the food groups represented, sweet potatoes, eggs, mayonnaise. I keep my green onions in a jar of water because that way they last 2 weeks instead of 2 days. 79cents a bunch is no joke people, Im not messing around, having those suckers get all dry on me. I save the root and plant it in the pot with my ivy plant, so then I have ivy and green onions shooting up all over and it makes no visual sense but is handy. We stretch 79 cents in this house, damn it!

There’s my soup stock that I should be making into onion soup right now, but I became lazy after wine. Oh and I made cranberry juice by boiling cranberries in sugary water. Its good. The door: 1/2 a lime, yeast, 389719723 jars of half eaten jam, 3 kinds of hot sauce, and donair sauce for squirting on pizza.

Holy Mackerel! Photo by Paddy Barry,  hanging in a place of sunny yellow prestige.

This salty old chap reflecting the windows in the kitchen.

Upstairs this guy is hanging over the terrrlitt in our Salle Du Bain, its a dad running upstairs in the night to pee. CB says he had like a family trailing behind him at one point but they are all gone now. LOL. This wine is making me so fucking morose lololol.

Ummmm.. I took this while peeing, because the light was hitting that old pitcher nicely. Sorry.. Probably shouldnt have typed that. Oh well, too late now, absolutely nothing I can do. Once something is typed on the internet it can never be backspaced.

This owl is cute.

This is a pink verigated I saved from a clearance rack in walmart. Who puts a living thing on a clearance rack! Sick, people. Sick. Shes doing hella good up in the bathroom.

This is a wall in our bedroom. Those are postcards from our friends, some antlers CB’s poppy had mounted, and a ton of old books. Closet doors are too expensive so this was my solution, to hang curtains. Eat your heart out, Martha Stewart.

Pineapple lights, light up my life…

This is a lamp that needs a shade, but Im holding out for a funky one, in front of a painting of the one eyed kitten I did in highschool, and a postcard I wrote to my Gram in NZ and never sent. Sorry Gram. Also my strawberry angel man, strumming the tune of my heart.

This is the small bathroom downstairs. Its super, super blue. I love it.

Some old javex bottles we found in the forest, and treasures from our travels. Shells and coins mostly.

This mirror is amazing. That is all.

This is a… tree? Made out of mussel shells that CB’s Nan Marie bought for me as a present. I think its so beautiful, and I love how it reflects the light in the bathroom.

Last picture. Living room window looking out at one of the bigger apple trees, my dried hydrangeas and an aloe plant I got because I burn myself so often at work.

Okay thats all the nonsense I have time for today. Gonna go walk Sweetpea before she just packs up and leaves. See ya!

Buds & Beer

I think it’s the first day of spring? I dunno if it was, but I was feeling it man. We spent the morning having breakfast and being lazy around the house. Then we took CB’s nan out for some lunch at The Bonnie Prince. The food was meh, but the company was nice. Then I bought some SOCKKKS!!! YEAAHH! SOCKS! YAY! WOO! SOCKS!

On the way back home we stopped for gas and ice creams. We took a detour down a dirt road we always talk about going down. We stopped along the road and trespassed onto a gorgeous chunk of property to look out over the ocean and the Gabarus village in the distance.

Then we came home and played around in the backyard for a while. CB sorted out the shed, and I wandered around taking pictures. We burned out paper garbage, which I always find fun for some reason. I think its all the fire maybe. Anyway I was poking at the fire when I noticed a large feathery friend settle down on a tree along the perimeter of the yard.

It was an eagle!! There is a very handsome eagle couple who live across the street. They dont usually come over because we feed the crows so they own our yard. They are not to be trifled with. I dont know where the crows were today, maybe recovering from the bag of Cheeseburger Slider chips I gave them, but the eagle snuck over to have a peek at us. Very curious. Did I mention I’m insane about eagles? I an insane about eagles.

Off he goes to the Missus.

My walk around the yard was mostly this; moss, pinecones, and bits of branches. There is a bunch of oak trees around the house that Blair brought up from acorns.

This is the house! Its cute, and pinkish.

This is a really old brick from the old fireplace that Marie found a fox paw print embedded in it. Coooool

I just like this rusty old lady bug bird feeder.

So sunny!

Little yellow well, marking the well!

CB found a rusty old egg beater, when you press the stick downwards it spins the beater. Cooooool

And he found this cool Tonka truck in the basement.

And a copy of The Four Loves by C.S Lewis. Cute.

I took a picture of the tub in Joan’s garden next door because it’s nice looking.

The side of Joan’s house

Peeking over the side of Joans porch. There’s a giant whale bone just chillin’ on a bench on the porch, and a collection of painted beach rocks.

Joans front door. Kiiiind of looks like a witch lives here, if I didnt know better….

Alright, CB is making some Jerk Pork so Im going to go sort out my spices into jars so I stop dropping packages of spices all over the place and becoming enraged. YAY! Bye!

Pocket Rocks

It’s all shades of grey outside today. Air is thick with the mulchy smell of mossy lawn uncovered by the thaw. Black spruce slough off what’s left of the heavy snow from slumping branches. Landing with pops and crackles on wet peat beneath. Standing still & breathing slow, the sound reminds me of a bowl of Rice Krispies & milk. Smack, spackle, plop. Stink of fish & diapers wafting in at low tide. Crows zigzag to and fro over the yard, checking for offerings from last nights dinner. It’s a no go, crow, sorry, dude. No such things as leftovers on Pizza Night!

I’ve been sitting on the couch for a few hours reading the internet. I feel like the weather. Heavy, stinky wet butts and sad crows wanting lasagna reflect my inner self completely. I laid in bed so late into the morning, half watching CB play a Marvel game on his tablet half staring at the ceiling. “What are you thinking about, Peanut?” In my head I had been designing an elaborate costume for myself to wear, in the shape of a pizza slice, but with customizable toppings made of silk and satin. Cheese of soft brushed out Angora wool dyed mozzarella-yellow with red crinoline tomato sauce underneath. Khaki button mushrooms with gills embroidered in brown silk ribbon, patent leather onions, velveteen green peppers and corduroy pepperoni. Tiny super glam gold lamé anchovies sparkling with silver sequins wrapped in black fishnet.. flannel olives..stuffed with.. polyester pimento…. ?… drifting in and out of dream state while I pieced together my beautiful pizza ball gown.. I dreamt last night kids from my public school opened a pizza joint in our old school and I was taste testing their products. I think I have a pizza fever. Eyes open now I reach over and grab the last slice. It’s been waiting patiently on my dresser all night for me to finish it off. The crust is cold and too chewy, but the cheese is still nice for me to bite. Yum. i love pizza. I love pizza. I Love Pizza. L.O.V.E.P.I.Z.Z.A

Yesterday CB an I went to look at a house thats for sale. We drove for a couple hours to see it. An old farm house with a barn, used to have horses. It smelled like creek water and was covered in dead flies. I think they were keeping an animal in the laundry room. Nice enough really, just too far away. We drove home dreaming of nicer places, and stopped for pizza. We watched X-Files and ate the pizza, and after, the best ice cream sandwiches ever on the planet. CB says, we are the age now that Mulder and Scully were when we watched it as kids. Mind blown. I love Mulder & Scully. M.U.L.D.E.R.&.S.C.U.L.L.Y

CB looks over and laughs at the look of me. He’s playing Fallout, and Im on the other bed sitting on top of the clean laundry. My outfit today consists of my flannel onesie, teal green with white stars, Arlene got me for christmas. Floral slippers, CB’s black sweater and he fashioned me a hooded cape out of a flannel blanket. There’s rocks in the pocket of CB’s sweater. I smell badly of old rotten armpits but I don’t plan on changing out of this today. Its comfy. Blogging Babushka, becoming one with the laundry. We don’t have jobs but we have been so busy, today we are taking a day off.

I haven’t written a blog in a while. We have been busy adventuring, and driving around, looking at stuff, dreaming and thinking and planning. Cooking. Eating. I feel the stress leaving my blood. We are going to start going to the YMCA, to the gym. There’s a pool there and I bought a cheap bathing suit. Im so excited to swim!!

Anyway.. I’m going to go drink some pop and read for a while. I have been reading so much! I’ve got that nerd enertia that comes after I read for a while. You know where you cant stop reading? You just read and read and read… Its nice. Okay, BYE! I’ll blog again soon because I have lots of pictures of foods we have been eating that I want to show you.

Catsitting, catnapping

I haven’t posted in a little while because we were dealing with a rather unpleasant sewer main problem, rendering us rather homeless… so we moved back into the trailer… and then it happened in the trailer… and then we moved back home and just dealt with having to poop nomadically. Showering sporadically, and brushing our teeth in the sinks of strangers.. its been a kind of trying couple of weeks.

But now, we are HOUSE SITTING! LIKE ROYALTY! Pooping whenever, WHEREVER! Well not wherever, mostly just the same spot. But its like complete freedom. One of our coworkers is in Cuba with his family for the next 3 weeks so we are taking care of Frankie, the cat. She is mental. Right now she is trying to crawl inside CBs backpack to live forever inside.

This house is an old salt box, and its very relaxing to hang out in so far. Its very quiet in here, just crackling fire and a very low hum of the refrigerator. It makes me wonder why our house was always so loud all the time.. The floors are giving us slivers in our feet but I really like the olivey-brown colour of them. The ceilings are about 8 feet tall downstairs, and 6′ 5″ upstairs. CB has to duck through all the doorways. You would think that would be claustrophobic, but its so comfy. Like a sunny hobbit house.

I love that all the window sills are covered in sea glass and bits of driftwood and treasures.

This rocking chair is the cats favourite toy.

I dont know what this is but its very pretty.

Olive floors!

They have 2 small kids, and their toys and art supplies make the house so colourful!

Blue glass with light shining through it is lovely

Making espresso. So relaxing.

This is taken while Im doing some laundry, peeking out at the neighbors like a creep.

Mummers and buttons and seashells. Beautiful.

In April we will be moving into another house in the centre of the island. It has a nice little porch out front that will be so nice for summer barbeques. It has a FULL SIZE OVEN which is something I havent had for the last 8 or so years. Its also right beside the little farmers market which is open on saturdays in the summer. Im getting crazy depressed with winter right now so Im just eating a lot of pineapple and  fantasizing about summer bbq’s and beers and vegetables and sunshine instead of squeezing my brain up with angry winter thoughts. Bahhhhhhhh… Ill take some more pics of the new digs! ALSO I WILL HAVE CELL RECEPTION SO MOM I WILL CALL YOU.

Gnormie and Tony

Holaaaaa meee ameegooos

Been gone for a while. Back at work, worky worky worky. Now I’m home; beery beery beery.

That up there is a portrait of CB and me, and a napping baby lamb. I’m the handsome one. I’m kidding, thats Gnorman and the Incredible Hulk…s kind of slow brother Tony.

Wowza, our bedroom is really red.. rad..

(cool dude, radical, excellent….)

Look! It’s so bright outside!! So snowy bright!

Painting stuffff. All my paintings are looking like the covers of science fiction books from the 70’s..

My one and only plant. Her name is Oh, Suzanna. It’s a jaunty name for a jaunty little succulent.

Check out our awesome floors. I mopped them for the second time ever! My the bottoms of my feet are foot coloured instead of grey!

Reflections of the outdoors on a photograph of indoors.

Sexy pattern mash ups.

Bills, and my Newfoundland magent collection that was a b-day present from The Galzzzz.

This is my laundry room. Inside those cupboard doors is a collection of antique aerosol cans of random solvents and about 15 cans of pineapple pop leftover from halloween. Inside that cloth tube, is bags. We reuse, because it appeased Captain Planet. That guy is so cool.

The view out the front door. TOO BRIGHT!!

Lego men– space guy, king dude. Ceramic Skunks. Dinky Cars. Sea urchins. Coins. Bolts. Nintendo GAMES!

Our gross little collection of wishes building up over the stove. Also spicy peppers and sticks to dig the spicy peppers out of your teeth.

PRESENTS FROM WORK! Thanks Cecil! Is it Cecil or Sea Salt..???? Anyway! He sent Mudder to work with a jar of Tur and a jar of duck! Doreen gave us a can of seal (or Swile apparently even though I dont think anybody even really calls it that and everybodys just fucking with me) and a can of beets. Crinkle cut. I think I’m going to make a pie with this meat. So awesome. I work with the best people and you should all be so jealous.

Our office desk is getting cluttered. And naaasstyyyyyy. Boobies!

My great grandmother picking wild flowers.

CB’s collection of knifes and whistles and lighters all lined up.

And thats what our house looks like right now. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a beer and my Supernatural boys to attend to. A good day!

Lawn Gnomes

This is our house! Its a cute wee thing in the middle of the woods and I’m so damn happy to be calling it home. To find it you have to go careening up curvy mountainous roads, make a sharp turn into what appears to be a solid wall of palm trees and bamboo and then go rumbling down a steep, pebbly, homocidal driveway and try not to disappear off either side and go rolling in a fiery inferno onto the fields below. Fun, every time.

But as the reward, you get this. Nice eh? Not a house or car in sight. Just grass and trees and birds. Tuis, spectacled finches that look like they have googly eyes glued to their heads, wax-eyes, fan tails, hawks, birds that look remarkably like Eugene Levy, little brown ones, little black ones, and one giant fat pigeon named Greg who is seriously exactly like a basketball covered in feathers. He takes immense pleasure in pooping on me when I walk under him. We are enemies. Damn you, Greg!

Come, walk with me around the gardennssssss…

Today was the day we Took Back The Yard! It involved a giant bloody pair of shears and a beauty of a lawnmower that’s leftover from some war time era. Did they have any wars in the Victorian times? I also spent the bulk of the morning picking off leaves and stems of every plant, eating them and declaring what they were before pruning or pulling them out of the ground without mercy. Everything turned out to be some kind of lettuce.

There she is! I can feel everyone in the entire world laughing at how impractical and stupid this is, but holy smokes.. its so fun. Its such a cool, simple, practical machine and it does its job really damn well. As my parents can both attest to, I detest mowing the lawn, but this was actually really fun. And an incredible work out. I didnt realize I had muscles under my arms and in the backs of my knees… ee…

Here is our glorious pile of clippings that I was very proud of! This is also a picture of our new gym.. I was sore after this.

A pretty flower. I can’t remember what these are called. Bird of Paradise? Anyway, very pretty and we have a wall of them around the front of the house.

Doing the laundry. Also the old fashioned way because we are too poor for a washing machine right now.  We do it by hand in the sink.. it takes about a week to get it all done. Thats not an exaggeration.. Anybody in the Auckland area want to donate a washing machine to a couple of broke ass but loveably dimwitted Canadians who seemingly insist on doing absolutely everything the hardest way possible??

Also for the record CB is way better at all of these things than me. Somehow when I do a load, all my tshirts come out smelling like my socks and when he does it it’s like we’re both wearing clothes washed in springtime rainbows.  Argh..

A tamarillo tree. I can’t tell but I think they are ripe— anybody in the Auckland area want to swap a washing machine for 20kg of tamarillos? Mmmm tamarillos, for when you cant decide whether you want to eat a tomato or a .. grape?

A little tiny grasshopper thing! I was going to say Weta but I’m not sure. We definitely have wetas here though, they look like prehistoric grasshoppers and are more amazing than they are scary. Greg likes to eat them.

Nasturtiums looking for the light. Future plans to turn this little shed into a chicken coop until the landlords notice… CHOOKS!

Looking up into the tamarillo tree.

This tree is growing beside the tamarillos and I don’t know what it is. It is some kind of fruit for sure. Feijoa??

The insides taste nice but have that bitter pectin-y taste.. hm..

An armload of the worlds most beautiful beets!

The back of the lot, not much going on back here. Just grass and some .. even bigger grass.

A nice fern that shades our garden.

This beautiful tree covered in purple flowers is my favourite. They look ultra violet against the green background of New Zealand bush and are so mesmerizing.

The healthiest silver beet in the universe. We will be eating this everyday forever.

A look out into our valley.

Celery! Growing out of the ground! I didnt know it did that!

Little pink rosebuds.

These are two of the strangest flowers in the garden. No idea what they are, and they do not taste good.

Mowing down the foot of thick, wet grass.

A monarch sipping the sweet nectar of this lovely tree. Some kind of rata? I really need to get a book on this stuff..

Squishing a tamarillo and eating its GUTS!

All the while, a tui sits and watches me, whistling like a little old man.
